The Polar Care Kodiak® "Original" cold therapy device manufactured by Breg® provides motorized cold therapy for use after surgery or sports medicine therapy. It is an entry level device which provides motorized cold therapy only, and not active, pneumatic, intermittent compression.
The Kodiak® "Original" offers variety of pads for purchase for the knee, hip, shoulder, foot/ankle, and back. It also allows for a bilateral Y-attachment, which is a great option if you are having two surgeries at the same time. The Kodiak® "Original" works by cooling the affected tissue to 7-10 degrees Celsius, compared to an ice pack, which is typically 3 degrees Celsius. This warmer therapy temperature used by the Kodiak " Original" helps protect your skin and incision. More is not better ! Too cold on a fresh incision is not good for skin healing, which is why ice packs are less effective. Because the temperature employed by the Kodiak® "Original" is at a safer level for your skin, you can apply the pad for longer periods of time than an ice pack. This allows the cold to penetrate much deeper into your tissue and bone, thus minimizing the spread of chemicals the body releases after injury or surgery. Because you have less spread of chemicals by the body, you experience less pain and reduced levels of swelling and inflammation, allowing you to rehab faster.
The Kodiak® "Original" unit is pre-set and does not have any buttons! Simply plug it in and enjoy the benefits of cold therapy. The Kodiak® "Original" uses Intelli-Flo® pad technology, which regulates the temperature of the water in the pad automatically, to help protect the skin.
